Belgian Pale Ale Project – Hangar 24’s Belgian Summer Ale (#2)

12 ounce bottle decanted into a curved pint glass.  5.8% ABV.

Appearance:  Lightly stained maple, moderate haze, with small islands of foam drifting around inside an off-white ring (3/5).

Aroma:  Pears and apples.  I’m digging in there for more, but I’m pretty much just getting pears and apples (3/5).

Taste:  Very light and fruity.  Nothing else really jumps out at me.  I guess I could imagine a hint of honey on the finish, but even that might be a stretch (2.75/5).

Mouthfeel:  Light body, medium carbonation.  Feels thin (3/5).

Overall:  This beer is extremely one dimensional.  It’s so straight-forward, in fact, that I eventually got a little tired of it toward the end.  The label suggests that I should be picking up flavors like pineapple, bubblegum, clove, and nutmeg, but my tongue disagrees.  It also says that Hangar 24 used a sour mash to add tartness to this “complex, slightly sour treat”.  Hmmmmmm… (2.75/5).
