Appearance: Perfectly clear amber. You could make jewelry out of this
thing. Persistent beige head (4.5/5).
Aroma: Freshly fermented apples. A little Belgian phenols. Some malty sweetness. The malt smells kind of like unbaked
pumpernickel (3.75/5).
Taste: This beer actually had me going until I
tasted it. It’s very watered down and
thin. I guess I’m no expert in the style
just yet, but this pint seems like it has training wheels on it. Like maybe I can have a real beer when I grow
up. There’s a little cider and a touch
of bready malt. I can’t find any of the
orange peel, but I can pretend I’m getting some of the hibiscus. And maybe a hint of nutmeg. As it warmed I got a breath of ripened figs
(2.75/5).
Mouthfeel: Light body, medium carbonation. Very thin (2.5/5).
Overall: I was originally hesitant to include a
MillerCoors product in my quarterly style flight, but the beer seemed to
conform to my predefined style parameters.
It sure looked pretty in my tulip, and the smell was inviting, but there
wasn’t anything in the pint to live up to these expectations. I guess I didn’t hate it, but I probably
should have laid out a plan that didn’t go from De Koninck directly into a Blue Moon (3/5).
